Problem statement

"Cricketers are confused about the
technical data of their shots because they
are unable to determine their body language
while playing "

From Insights to Features - Visualizing the user experience for
Raghav & Varun Sir

We developed an experience map to capture the overall user journey and
touchpoints while in the practice session. Upon completion of the journey
map, Our focus became clear - which was to focus on improving the
communication and feedback

We wanted to re-design the app to be

visual

, something that would empower

Resilient Raghav and Valuable Varun sir to be more detailed about knowledge
and improvement

Information Architecture

The section 'Journey' & 'Awards', are opportunities for our users to connect
deeply with other players and establish their social hierarchy among other
cricketers

Low - Fi Diagrams

Next part , to lay the groundwork for our digital wireframes, We rounded up our
sketches and ran a quick sprint to map our design solutions

Solution

We quickly built a Hi-fi prototype from wire-frame to test. Each time we
made a design iteration, we conducted usability tests to validate the work-
ability of our design

More visual perspective

Insight

Cricketers do not wish to check his performance only by the data

Solution

Capturing and comparing a video side by side will allow Raghav and Varun Sir
to discover tiniest error in action

Coach responses

Insight

Coach feedback plays an important role in influencing players to understand
the cricket

Solution

A new page includes flexible comment & drawing tools. A coach may add a
comment - anywhere in the video - with basic geometries such as lines
circles and polygons

High quality content

Insight

Every sports player has his own dream player/team to play with. Players like
to know the latest news and updates about them when it comes to playing
professionally

Solution

Implement a news-feed where cricketers can see curated content such as
the latest blog posts and customized quizzes

Social profile

Insight

Cricket is more of a social game, Players would like to know more about other
team members to understand them better

Solution

Complement a personal profile with journey & his top shots, where other
players can look up information about their team member

Validation  & Test

Following the final prototype, We conducted another user test to validate the
improvements we have made. Overall, The cricketers were satisfied and our
SUS score improved from 55.62 to 72.46

Here are some of the key learnings & analyses we have gathered from our
test observations

Cricketers use often their favorite shots among all categories.

Cricketers are particular about their shot selection on the specific balls

Cricketers don't usually focus on rewards only, Gamification can be introduced
with simple methods

Cricketers are keen on browsing videos, prefer to see all videos at a single page
similar to gallery view

According to our research, While watching a video, cricketers do not just watch
every video but type too. Hence, We concluded that showing every video at once will
increase the cognitive load of users.

Therefore in our proposal, we introduce multiple ways to discover products, such as '
Drive' 'Hook' 'pull' and many others:

Conclusion

Despite having handed over the project to the developers, there are still
improvements can be made

We kicked off the project by researching into cricketer’s decision and shot
selection, what else could we have expanded on? Could we focus on cricket
history? How might we further develop player’s experience of game?

Next steps

Develope a document for the developers.

Design a similar experience for the bowlers & Wicket kepeers

Implement the revamped mobile app into the web app

Monitor analytics on the improved site

" I don't know how much I have
improved since I joined the academy "

"It's very tedious to send videos to
parent's Whatsapp every day"
What can be improved?

Usability test with current app

We conducted a usability test with the existing app to gather
primary user feedback

a) The existing app is currently only displaying technical data, highly useful for a
seasoned player but someone who just started playing will not understand complex
statistics.

b) Cricketers used two phones to compare their shots. A fresh feature can be
introduced to compare videos

c) There could be a section where a player can see more media about his favorite
cricketers: Customized media, blogs and past records.

We analysed three other apps ( BBC, beIN sports & Mi Fit ) to gain insight of what
these existing platforms had done positively to help cricketers / athletes.

Defining the problem

To understand our users better, we developed two personas which were
based on the trends and patterns that we had discovered earlier during our
research phase.

BEMRR

Project

Mobile app design, For cricketers

to improve their game

Timeline

6 Weeks

Team

Raja K, Ria Pattani,

Rashee Chandurkar

Tools

Adobe XD, Coggle

With the advent of technology, the world has witnessed unbelievable success
of some of the sports players. When Sports and technology are going to
touch every nook and corner of India and the world, BEMRR wants to become
a part of it.

For professional players, BEMRR tends to create a curiosity. How a system
can help him improve in practice sessions, in aspects like shot refinement
and communication with the coach.

Design challenge

To redesign the existing app for cricketers to intensify learning professional
cricket, so they can perform better in tournaments.

How did we go about the design process?

Discovering the problem

User Interviews

To gain a sense of the cricketers' experience with improvement,
we interviewed 26 cricketers, 2 x ICC level 3 & 6 X State level
Coaches, aged between 18 - 62 years old.
